Sport Minister Gives Netball Jamaica Six Million Dollars for Series
Kingston, October 1 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has contributed Six-Point-Three-Five Million Dollars to assist Netball Jamaica to host the Sunshine Series International Netball Tournament between Trinidad and Tobago’s Calypso Girls and Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls taking place between October 14 and 22, 2021.
Minister Grange said: “It is with pleasure that I announce the Government’s contribution to the staging of the Series. The matches we feel will be beneficial to the preparation of the Sunshine Girls for next year’s Commonwealth Games since the national netball team has not played an International Game since January 2020 when they placed second to New Zealand in the Nations Cup.
“The funding comes through two of our agencies, the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) and Independence Park Limited (IPL) along with the Ministry’s Sport Policy Development & Monitoring Branch. SDF has provided One Million Dollars while IPL is providing the venue, the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC), free of cost at a value of Five-Point-Two-Five Million Dollars.
The Series which also involves an All-Jamaican Male Team opens with the Calypso Girls taking on the Male Team.
On Saturday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m., the Sunshine Girls play the Calypso Girls and again on Monday, October 18.
The Series ends on October 22.
