I never chose my life, it chose me.
All the other paths and other options were never really choices I had.
I didn’t grow up with wealth and doing what I wanted was never a possibility.
Survival was a way of life for me very early and it’s what I became accustomed to..
Making my own way, without help, to fight for myself and what I wanted in a sometimes harsh world.
I wasn’t given any breaks, cut any slack or had things go my way.
I made my opportunities.
I fought to become who I am.
I still dig deeply on my bad days and keep going.
People marvel at my strength and resiliency, but they’ll never know the price I paid to get here.
They’ll never understand my long road to become the person I am and the countless setbacks I’ve beaten along the way..
And it’s okay.
They don’t have to.
I look in the mirror every day and remind myself of who I am and where I came from.
I owe myself and my future that.
Never do I forget the things I’ve overcome.
Never do I forget the people that hurt me.
Never do I forget the lessons I’ve learned.
All of that- the joy, the pain, the victories and the loss..
That’s made me the person you see before you now.
I still have bad days when my hair is out of control and I’m late to everything,
But I still show up and fight.
I can’t say it’s ever really easy, but at least now, I know what it takes to rise above.
So, that’s what I’m going to keep doing-
Being the warrior that I am and battling through all the storms that life throws at me.
I’m far from perfect, but I don’t have to be.
I just have to be me.
That, for me, will always be enough..
Because I’ll always be amazing and unstoppable..
Just the way that I am.
