Few hours to Christmas day, there has been reports of serious fire outbreak at a plaza known as the Great Nigeria Insurance House, located on Martins Street in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The building, which serves as a warehouse for clothing materials, was said to have been engulfed by fire at about 5 p.m. of December 24.

In a press statement sent to Afrosky by the PRO of LASEMA, Mr. Nosa Okumbor, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said that “the fire has escalated rapidly across multiple floors, posing significant risks to lives, adjoining buildings, and the safety of members of the public within the surrounding perimeter.
He added that “Due to the escalating nature of the fire, residents, traders, occupants of neighbouring buildings, and members of the public within the immediate and extended vicinity of the affected plaza are hereby strongly advised to evacuate the area immediately to prevent possible casualties arising from smoke inhalation, structural compromise, or fire spread.
“Emergency response teams, including LASEMA’s Shark Response Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Ambulance Service, and other critical responders, are fully engaged in firefighting, rescue, and containment operations.”
