*"OMIJE OJU MI" GOES HOME*
A popular Nigerian gospel musician, Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, popularly known as Omije Oju Mi, is dead. She died on Tuesday, 13th January, 2026.
The gospel singer made history when she went from the banking industry to the music industry. Her debut "omije oju mi" brought her to limelight as a voice to be reckoned with in the gospel music industry. It is worthy of note that her musical journey began at the age of 10.
According to available information from reliable sources, Akinnanu died from a prolonged illness associated with her leg. She was reported to have publicly called for prayers and divine healing over the leg ailment. It would be recalled that in 2025, a video of Akinnanu surfaced online from a church service at G. F. David Ministries in Ibadan, the Oyo State, capital, where she was seen seated with her leg stretched out while prayers were offered.
During the service, a cleric disclosed that the singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg, prompting intense prayers for healing.
Akinnanu who studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the Lagos State University (LASU) after attending Lagos State Polytechnic, rose to fame in the early 2000s after leaving a banking career to venture into gospel music. Her nickname: Omije Oju mi (Tears of my Eyes) came from her debut album. She was the leader of Omije Ojumi Gospel International Music band.
Akinnanu was said to have worked in the banking industry for over a decade before switching to gospel music. She will be remembered for her unique type of gospel music which blends traditional and contemporary sounds, and her inspirational songs about faith, healing, and hope.
The gospel music industry and indeed all lovers of music will miss her.
